Obituary of Louise A. Gardinier

EAST HERKIMER – Mrs. Louise (Angelicchio) Gardinier, age 87, of 127 Walnut Ave in East Herkimer, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on Friday morning, October 20, 2017, with her family by her side.

Born on June 21, 1930, in Herkimer, Louise was the daughter of the late Antonio and Jennie (Colonna) Angelicchio. She was one of nine children. She attended Herkimer High School and was a graduate with the Class of 1949.

Louise married John Gardinier on October 20, 1951 and together they raised five children. Their marriage spanned 62 years until John’s passing in April of 2013. This year, they get to celebrate their anniversary together, in Heaven.

“Grandma Lou” loved to cook. Whether your visit was planned or impromptu, there was always plenty of food; the leftovers went home with everyone! If you couldn’t visit, she always made an effort to bring a dish to you or send it home with someone. If given a chance, she would regale you with stories of her life growing up in Herkimer and St. Johnsville, and the happy times she had spent with her family.

She was an avid Yankees fan and truly enjoyed watching them play! To her children, she always stressed her outlook on life…”Always look to be better; educate yourself and learn from others who are more educated.”

Louise will be dearly missed. She has been a part of the East Herkimer community and lived in the home that her husband, John, built for their family, since 1960. People from the neighborhood would stop by to see Louise and enjoy reminiscing with her. She took great pride in her home and in her family.

She leaves her five children, who will miss her deeply, Mariann and Dan Nolan of Manlius, NY, Phyllis Hummel of Little Falls, Janet Swanson and Bob Shuman of Sherborn, MA, Diane and Mark  Knapp of Corinth, NY, and Brian and Jennifer Gardinier of Rochester; her sixteen grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart, Chaz Haggerty, Cory (Erika) Haggerty, Caitlin Haggerty, Harrison (Michele) Hummel, Keila (Josh) Frederick, Justin Hummel, Solace Hummel, Jordan Hummel, Danielle Swanson, Jenny Swanson, Jason Knapp, Kyle Knapp, Steven Knapp, Jessica Munnings, Gage Gardinier and Emma Gardinier; and her eleven great-grandchildren, whom she cherished. She also leaves two sisters, Donna Aceto of Herkimer and Rose Nobles of Utica; her sister-in-law, Alice (Gardinier) Hysack of Little Falls; many nieces, nephews and cousins, in particular her niece, Lori Nobles, who spent many hours with “Weezie”; and longtime family member, James Swanson.

Besides her parents and husband, John, she was predeceased by an infant son, Patrick; her brothers, Vito, Bernard and Dominick; and her sisters, Antoinette, Genevieve and Lucy.

A special thank you to Frank and Mary Tamburrino, Louise’s neighbors for more than fifty years; they were always there for Louise, no matter what was needed.

The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Little Falls Hospital; they were especially kind to our mother during her stay. Additionally, the Folts Home 1st floor nursing staff made Mom’s last few months very comfortable.

As per Louise’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours. Her family will gather privately to bid their farewells to her. Friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral service, which will take place on Monday morning, October 23, 2017 at 9:00AM at Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church in Herkimer, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Quy Vo, Pastor. Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.

Funeral arrangements and supervision have been entrusted to Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, funeral directors of the original Enea Family Funeral Home (FKA Holleran Funeral Service) 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011.
