Obituary of Joyce J. Spellicy

MOHAWK – Joyce J. Spellicy, age 82, formerly of Marshall Ave., Mohawk, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford.

 

She was born on August 23, 1935 in Fultonville, NY, the daughter of Kenneth and Dorothy (Raym) James and graduated from Fultonville High School.  On April 24, 1954, Joyce was married to Robert “Bob” J. Spellicy at Annunciation Church, Ilion.  He died on June 25, 2016.  She was an assembler of circuit boards at MDS, Herkimer, for 23 years.  Mrs. Spellicy later worked at Valley Health Services, Herkimer, retiring in 1999.  She enjoyed doing her word find puzzles.  Joyce loved playing with the grandchildren and attending their sporting events and activities.  Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.

 

Surviving family members include her daughters, Valerie Strife and her husband, Jeff, of Mohawk and Barbara Slack, of Frankfort; four cherished grandchildren, Todd Phillips and his wife, Alaina, Amanda Gallina and her husband, Matt, Spencer Strife and Shannon Slack; seven great-grandchildren, Mariyah, Jordan, Emily, Preston, Blake, Lucas and Levi; her brother, Clifford James and his wife, Anita, of Clayton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

She was predeceased by her mother and father; her brother, Kenneth “Pete” James; her sister, Donna Rose; and her son-in-law, Ron Slack.

 

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Mohawk Cemetery.  In keeping with Joyce’s wishes, there are no scheduled calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Valley Health Services, 690 West German St., Herkimer, NY 13350.

 

The family wishes to thank the staff at Valley Health Services for their compassion, care and “patience” during her four year stay.  Also the family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare ICU and PCU for their excellent care and compassion.
