Obituary of Jennie M. Domina

FRANKFORT – (Jane) Jennie M. Domina, of Frankfort, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2017, with her loving family by her side and keeping vigil. She was 96 years of age.

Jennie was born on April 18, 1921 in Little Falls, New York. She was the daughter of the late Stephen and Matilda (Lisicin-Jezerac) Stagich. Jennie was united in marriage on January 24, 1942 to James Russell Domina. James remained the love of her life until his passing on July 18, 1974.

Jennie was a graduate of Mohawk High School. She trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant and was very proud of the fact that she had the highest grades in her class and was the oldest student. She cared for many other people during her career. Her patients were treated like family and families responded by making Jennie a special part of their family. Her generosity, compassion and kindness will be remembered fondly.

She retired from Ilion High School where she was well liked and respected by staff and students.

The role Jennie cherished most in life was that of wife and mother. Her outgoing personality made her a friend to all who came through her door. It was common to see many neighborhood children at the Domina house. She was described by a schoolmate as “a real cool lady”. Likewise, many dogs and cats found their way to her door throughout the years.

Jennie enjoyed baking and was good at it. Her family and friends always enjoyed the sweet confections she baked. During the holidays Jennie would bake Sicilian Cucudatis, Peanut Butter Blossoms, Butter Cookies and Fudge to share with all. She mailed many holiday tins of cookies and candy canes throughout the years.

Jennie was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She never missed a birthday or special occasion during her lifetime. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to her family and extended family members.

Jennie was often seen out with her sisters. Their tight-knit group of three was often referred to as the “Golden Girls.” Jennie was a peacemaker and healer who encouraged and fostered love. She enjoyed socializing with her family and friends who would always remark about her extraordinarily lovely skin and outgoing personality.

She is survived by a beloved son, James A. Domina of O’Fallon, Illinois; a beloved son, David M. Domina of Schuyler, New York; a beloved daughter, Bonnie L. (Domina) Maslow and husband, Edward W. Maslow of Little Falls, New York; her beloved grandchildren, Julie Anna (Domina) Huelsing and husband, Tom Huelsing of O’Fallon, Illinois, Megan (Domina) Sprouse of O’Fallon, Illinois, Jason Domina of O’Fallon, Illinois, Heather ( Domina) Judd, and husband, Luke Judd of Mohawk, New York, Holly (Domina) Yardley and husband Michael Yardley, of Mohawk, New York, and Carrie Dame (Maslow) Abraham and husband, Ryan Abraham of Rockville, Maryland; her great-grandchildren, Logan Domina, Lauren Huelsing, Sophia Domina, Anthony Sprouse, Madelyn Sprouse, Christopher Judd, Logan Judd, Cullen Judd, Michael Yardley, Matthew Yardley and Blake Yardley; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved family members: mother, Matilda Stagich and father, Stephen Stagich; sister, Mary Spraker, sister Violet O’Connell and brothers, John Stegich, Jacob Stegich, and Stephen Stegich.
