Obituary of Donald G. Haag

MIDDLEVILLE – Donald G. Haag, age 86, of Middleville, passed away, peacefully, on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Albany Medical Center.

 

He was born on February 17, 1931, in Centerport, PA, the son of George M. Haag and Mary “Bessie” Susan (Nye) Haag.  Don graduated from Mount St. Mary’s College, Emmitsburg, MD, in 1962, with a BS in Economics. He later graduated from George Washington University, Washington, DC with a Masters Degree in Engineering Administration in 1971.

 

Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to whom family was the most important thing.  He also served his Country as a US Naval Seabee during the Korean Conflict.

 

Don had a large and varied business career with American Telephone & Telegraph Company, General Electric Company and the US Postal Service. In 1975-76, while  working in upper management at the US Postal Service, he was selected to participate in the Presidential Executive Interchange Program. He worked during this time with the General Electric Company at the Research & Development Labs in Niskayuna, NY. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service, as a Regional Director, in Philadelphia in 1980. He later put his entrepreneur skills to work and started several enterprises. He was also credited with several patents.

 

Surviving family members include his wife, Virginia; five children, Eric W. Haag (Gayle), Walter G. Haag (Grace), Donna J. Ball (Steven), Gail L. Alenikov (Nicolai) and Paul M. Haag (Martha); 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Robert Adam Haag and Walter Stanley Haag; daughters, Janet E. Haag and JoAnne M. Pugh; and one granddaughter, Jennifer A. Cooper (nee Ball).

 

Visitation will be held Friday, December 1, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 301 Gros Blvd., E. Herkimer, NY.  Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the church.  Burial will be held at Viewpoint Cemetery, Mohrsville, PA on Saturday, December 2, 2017.
