Obituary of Nancy K. Carter

NANCY K. CARTER

(1936-2017)

 

FORT PLAIN – Nancy K. (Borchert) Carter, 81, of 12 Wagner Street, Fort Plain, died on Friday December 1, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, NY following a short illness.

 

She was born on her grandparent’s farm on Marshville Road in the Town of Canajoharie on September 20, 1936. She was the first grandchild of William and Leola Borchert and the only child of Claude and Esther (Putnam) Borchert. She attended the one room schoolhouse in Palatine Church until St. Johnsville School District consolidated. In her junior year of high school, she moved with her family to Cherry Valley, NY where she graduated, Class of 1954. After graduation, she went to work for her uncle, Paul Loadwick in the Luxuray Knitting Mill in Fort Plain where she worked on and off for many years as a sewer.

 

She was first married to Leonard L. Bayes of Amsterdam, NY. She then moved to Hempstead Airforce Base on Long Island, where her first child, Kirk was born. In the early 1960’s, she moved to Fort Plain, NY where she married her second husband, Richard P. Carter, and moved to Wagner Street where she lived the rest of her life. Her second son, Robert was then born. She was a seamstress and did sewing for other people for many years.

 

After the death of her husband, she went back to work in the Luxuray until her parents took ill. She then retired to take care of them. After the deaths of her parents in 1998, she did housework for a few local families; and subsequently was the cleaner at The Medicine Shoppe in Fort Plain. Due to illness, she stopped doing housework and spent her days watching tv and enjoying her kittycat.

 

She was predeceased by her parents and both husbands. She is survived by her sons, Kirk W. Bayes (Hope) and Robert C. Carter (Annette) of Fort Plain, NY. Four stepsons and their families, Richard (deceased) (Carole), Fort Plain; Kenneth (Paula), Florida; Norman (Anne), Tennessee; and James (Janet), Arizona. Three grandchildren, Eric Bayes (Megan), Massachusetts, Victoria and Jonathan Carter of Nelliston, NY. Two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Parker Bayes of Massachusetts. Her Aunt, Marie Eckler of Fort Plain, NY. A special friend, Marie Robinson (Gary) of Fort Plain, NY, and numerous cousins.

 

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services. A remembrance open house will be held at the home of her son Kirk, 5 Wagner Street, Fort Plain, NY, on Saturday December 16, 2017 from 12 Noon until 6:00 PM. Donations in Nancy’s memory should be made to the Ayers Memorial Animal Shelter, Sprakers, NY.
