Obituary of Dennis Michael Murphy

OXFORD – Mr. Dennis Michael Murphy, age 68, currently of Oxford and formerly of St. Johnsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, December 2, 2017, at the UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital.

Born on May 31, 1949, Dennis was the son of the late Earl and Victoria (Potempa) Murphy. He was raised and educated in the Camden area. At one time, Dennis was married to the late Holly Tepp.

On July 3, 1969, Dennis enlisted with the United States Air Force and honorably served his country until his discharge and retirement on January 26, 1976. Whilst in the military, Dennis achieved the rank of Sergeant and was a Parts Procurement Specialist both at home and abroad.

Dennis was an avid coin collector with an expansive collection and an impressive knowledge of his hobby. He was a one-of-a-kind individual with a big heart and a great love for his family. Throughout his last years, Dennis was a resident of the NYS Veteran’s Home of Oxford. He really enjoyed entertaining the residents and staff there and all would visit his room to see the “Candy Man” and enjoy a piece of candy.

Survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Julie Murphy of Camden, Earl and Jan Murphy of Rome, Brian Murphy of Whitesboro and Richard and Kathleen Murphy of Cassville. He also leaves his longtime friends, Jan and Pete Krump.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Lou Murphy, Sandra Lee Murphy and Margaret Ann Congdon.

An offer of gratitude is extended to the staff and caregivers of Oxford; the facility truly went above and beyond for Dennis and for his family. The Murphy’s would fully recommend this facility to any veteran in need of short or long-term care.

For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions in Dennis’ name to the NYS Veteran’s Home of Oxford, 4207 NY-220, Oxford, NY 13830.

In keeping with Dennis’ wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. His final arrangements were entrusted to Martin L. Ciaccia and Harry and Kevin Enea, funeral directors of the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000.
