Obituary of Doris Louise Petty

ILION – Mrs. Doris Louise (Myers) Petty, age 85, a longtime Ilion resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

 

Born on March 26, 1932, Doris was the daughter of the late John and Amy (Nye) Myers. She was raised and educated locally, graduating from Ilion High School. She furthered her education through BOCES where she trained as a Nurse’s Aide. On September 29, 1956, she was wed to Mr. Clarence Petty and the two have been married for over sixty-one years.

 

Doris worked for various companies throughout the Mohawk Valley, including Haver’s Market in Poland, the Presbyterian Home, Loblaws, the Arthur Murray Dance Studio, GE, Remington Rand, and most recently at ConMed. She also helped out in her husband’s machine shop, CV Petty Tool and Dye.

 

She was a member of the Ilion Baptist Church, and formerly was active in the Poland and Newport Baptist churches, as well as teaching Sunday School. She was also involved with Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts as a troop leader.

 

Survivors include her husband, Clarence; her daughters and son-in-law, Diana and Rev. Glen Clark of Ilion, and Deborah Petty of Whitesboro; her son, Duane Petty of Ilion; her grandchildren, Thomas and Katherine Clark; her sister, Betty Bongiorno of Ilion; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

She was predeceased by her sisters, Charlotte Lane and Elaine Myers, and her brother, Edward Myers.

 

A memorial service for Doris will be held at a later date, at the convenience of her family.

 

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Don Applegate and Martin L. Ciaccia, funeral directors of the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Homes.
