Obituary of Curtis A. Sutton

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mr. Curtis A. Sutton, passed away  peacefully at the age of 89 on Friday evening December 29, 2017 at Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown, NY. He was a longtime resident of St. Johnsville. He received wonderful care for which his family is very grateful.

He was born on April 26, 1928 in the town of Ephratah, NY, son of the late Roy and Grace (Cromer) Sutton. He was educated in schools in Lasselsville and St. Johnsville.

Curt served our country with the United States Army, World War II, having been honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. Curt worked with HP Hood Milk Company, Canajoharie, mainly in the transportation division driving a truck. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union Local 699 for over 30 years and was a member of the Methodist Church. He was also a member of the St. Johnsville American Legion Morris J. Edwards Post #168.

Curt loved working in his yard, which his neighbors said he manicured, ­­ and sitting on his front porch, where he could watch the world go by and chat with neighbors as they passed.  He loved visits from his family, and was entertained by his great grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Barbehenn and husband Frank, daughter in law, Paula Sutton, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Waona, and his son, David.

The funeral service will take place on Saturday January 6, 2018 at 11:00 AM at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street in St. Johnsville, NY. (518) 568-2300. The Rev. David A. Johnson will officiate. Calling hours at the funeral home are on Friday evening January 5, from 5 until 8 PM. On Friday evening at 6:00 PM his comrades from the St. Johnsville American Legion will come to the funeral home in a group and pay tribute to Curt. The burial service will take place in the Spring of 2018 at a time convenient to the family at West St. Johnsville Cemetery, where a full military service will be presented.

Those wishing to remember Curt in a special way are asked to extend a donation in his honor to the St. Johnsville American Legion, 38 West Main Street in St. Johnsville.  Envelopes for this purpose are available at the funeral home.
