Obituary of AnnaMay Hill

HERKIMER – Mrs. AnnaMay (Shumway) Hill, age 82, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, January 29, 2018, at Homelife at Folts in Herkimer.

Born on March 12, 1935, AnnaMay was the daughter of the late Ferris and Grace (Kyle) Shumway. She was raised and educated in Tupper Lake and was a graduate from Stratford High School. She went on to further her education at the Utica School of Commerce, where she earned her degree in business.

Much of AnnaMay’s life was spent as a homemaker, raising her children and tending to her duties as a mother. For a short time, she was employed with MDS in Herkimer and with MetLife.

On March 16, 1981, AnnaMay was joined in marriage to Colonel Robert W. Hill, and together they shared in a blessed union of over 20 years, until Mr. Hill’s passing on July 18, 2001.

Over the years, AnnaMay surrounded herself with the company of others, volunteering as a poll worker, and visiting with her many friends and family members. She was known to be found relaxing, with a cup of coffee in one hand and a good book in the other. She had a good sense of humor and in her later years, was known to be playful and feisty, especially with her caregivers at the nursing home. Her family is forever grateful for the care she received throughout her stay on the 4th Floor at Homelife at Folts, and for the wonderful people that she spent her last years with.

She is survived by her children, Penny and Edward Bliss of Schuyler, Donna and Dennis Lawrence of Coldbrook, Scott and Zondra Coffin of Frankfort, Tammy Coffin of Ilion, Karen and Peter Duffy of Ballston Spa, Randy and Lori Coffin of Ilion and Timmy and Dawn Coffin of Tennessee; along with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Charlotte Shumway of Coldbrook, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Gary Coffin, on June 10, 2000, and by her brothers, Carl, Robert, Edwin, and Kenneth Shumway.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend visitation on Friday afternoon, February 9, 2018, from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. AnnaMay’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 6:00PM at the funeral home, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation. Spring burial will take place at Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Robert.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

AnnaMay’s final wishes have been entrusted to Harry and Kevin Enea, and Martin L. Ciaccia, funeral directors.
