Obituary of Irene Wiers

 

HERKIMER - Mrs. Irene Wiers, 85, of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2018 at the Presbyterian Home of Central New York. She received compassionate care at that facility and the family is very grateful.

 

Irene was born in Canajoharie, NY on September 12, 1932, the daughter of the late Demyron and Lucy (LaGrange) Allen. She graduated from Canajoharie Central School. Irene married the love of her life upon his return from the U.S. Army in World War II, Raymond Larkin Wiers, Jr. They joined in Holy Matrimony on Feb. 9, 1951 in Canajoharie and their union spanned over 53 years. The couple attended the First United Methodist Church in Herkimer for many years. Ray passed away on July 20, 2004.

 

Irene prided herself on being a loving homemaker, always putting family first. After her children were older, Irene worked at Lovier’s Dairy on Caroline Street in Herkimer where she wholeheartedly supported her husband and his brother’s business. She was later employed by Mohawk Bake Shop and Herkimer County Community College. Irene was a member of the Democratic Committee assisting with voting in local and national campaigns. In her spare time, Irene enjoyed connecting with her family, yard work, gardening, cooking, baking, crocheting, bowling, playing board games and pitch. Irene gave and received incomparable love through the family and all through her life and was a highly respected member of the community.

 

She is survived by her loving family; her sisters Shirley Estenich and June Dunkel; her Daughter and Son – in – Law, Cathy and Paul Conant of Mohawk, NY, her Daughter and Son – in – Law, Cindy and Frank Stagliano of St. Johnsville, NY, and her Son and Daughter – In – Law, Steven and Sondra Wiers of Rome, NY. She is also survived by her Grandchild, Paul Conant and his wife Kimberly and their son Benjamin of Niskayuna, NY, her Grandchild, Melinda Valent and her husband Mike and their son Micah of St. Johnsville, NY, her Grandchild, Matthew Conant and his wife Theresa and their children Elizabeth and Julian of Crozier, Virginia, and her Grandchild Alissa Otty and her husband Jason and their son Justin and their twin daughters Francesca and Gianna. She also additionally is survived by many extended family members.

 

She was predeceased by her Husband, Ray; her Brothers George Allen, Herbert Allen, and Anderson “Dick” Allen, and her sisters Marion Lehtonen, Peggy Sawchuck, Elizabeth Wall, Edith Brown and Geraldine Skandara.

 

Funeral service will be held in the Spring of 2018 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer, NY where Irene will be laid to rest aside her beloved husband Ray. The services will be privately held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Joelle Faulks officiating. Her arrangements are under the caring guidance of Kevin and Harry Enea and Martin Ciaccia of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street in Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011.
