Obituary of Virginia R. "Jean" Madigan

ILION – Virginia “Jean” R. Madigan, age 93, formerly of 5 W. Prospect St., Ilion, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, with her grandson, Kyle by her side.

She was born on March 12, 1924, in Herkimer, the daughter of Dominick and Theresa (Porchetta) Fiore and graduated from Herkimer High School.  On October 6, 1951, she was married to Paul L. Madigan, Sr., in St. Anthony’s Church, Herkimer.  He died on May 10, 1999.  “Jean” was employed at the Hennessey Service Corp., Ilion, as a food preparer for vending machines.  Mrs. Madigan was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. “Jean” enjoyed gardening and flowers.  Her children and grandchildren were most important in her life.  She loved being a mother and grandmother.

Surviving family members include her children, David P. Madigan, of Ilion, James Madigan and his wife, Jayne, of GA, Paul “Junior” Madigan and his wife, Dana, of Ilion and Linda Madigan, of Colorado; her grandchildren, Sara Sexton and her husband, Jeff, Shauna Madigan and her fiancé, Trevor, Kyle Madigan and Cameron Madigan; her great-granddaughter, Aubree; and her sister, Pauline Fiore, of Herkimer.

She was predeceased by her husband; parents; and her sisters, Angie, Inez and Mary.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West St., Ilion.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., at the Church of the Annunciation, West St., Ilion, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Catena, Pastor.  Spring burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer.
