Obituary of Vito Losito, Jr.

 

HERKIMER – Mr. Vito Losito, Jr., age 88, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday February 1, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, NY. Vito was surrounded by the love and support of his family.

 

Vito was born on August 25, 1929 in Herkimer, NY, the son of the late Vito and Mary Louise (Teso) Losito. Raised and educated locally, he attended Herkimer schools, and graduated with Herkimer High School, ‘Class of 1947.’ He served in the United States Army, Korean Conflict from 1951 until 1953. On October 6, 1951, Vito was united in marriage to Mary C. Netti, and as a couple, they shared in 65 years of a devoted and blessed marriage. Mary passed away on December 21, 2016.

 

Vito was employed at one time at Standard Furniture Company for 23 years in Herkimer. He then worked for 21 years at the Library Bureau in Herkimer retiring as a foreman. He was a parishioner of the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph in Herkimer and was a member of the Tony R. George Post. Nothing brought Vito more joy than to be with his family. He was an excellent gardener and craftsman and even loved to make toys.

 

Surviving family members include his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Vito J. and Margaret Losito of Syracuse, his daughter and son-in-law, Maryann and Joseph Cirillo of Mohawk, his cherished grandchildren, Joseph Cirillo, Esq., Mary Cirillo, Dr. Elisabeth Losito and her husband Dr. Rahul Gupta and Erica Losito. He also leaves In-Laws Rita and Claude Orcutt and Richard Carbone of Herkimer, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Mary, his grandson, Jonathan Matthew Cirillo and six siblings.

 

Funeral services will be held on Monday February 5, 2018 at 8:30 AM from The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street in Herkimer, NY and at 9:00 AM at the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, South Main Street in Herkimer where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Quy Vo, Pastor. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Enea family Funeral Home, Herkimer. Interment will take place in the Spring of 2018 with Full Military Honors at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, beside his beloved Mary.

 

It is the wish of the family that in lieu of floral offerings donations be considered to either the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
