Obituary of Marie E. "Midge" Murphy

 

ILION – Marie “Midge” (Emrich) Murphy, age 100, of Second St., Ilion, and formerly of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2018.

 

She was born on January 12, 1918, in Frankfort, the daughter of Albert Emrich and Margaret (Sitek) Emrich.  Marie “Midge” graduated from St. Francis de Sales Catholic School and Herkimer High School.  On November 24, 1954, she married Raymond H. Murphy in Herkimer.  He died on April 23, 1993.  Mrs. Murphy was employed as a machine operator and inspector at Remington Arms Co., Ilion, for 28 years, retiring in 1968.  She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Remington Arms 25 Year Club and a former member of the Schuyler Senior Citizens.

 

Marie “Midge” loved her home on Second St.  She also enjoyed her camp in Eagle Bay for many years and will be missed by her many friends and neighbors in the Adirondacks.  Mrs. Murphy liked traveling and took many trips to Canada (Canadian Rockies), Nova Scotia, Montreal and Ottawa.  She also enjoyed going out to dinner, especially her Friday “fish fries”.  In January, 2018, she celebrated her 100th Birthday with her family and friends.

 

Surviving family members include her brother, Donald “Don” Emrich, of E. Herkimer; her sister, Irene MacDougall, of Rockledge, FL; her sister-in-law, Virginia Emrich, of Herkimer; many nieces, including Margaret “Peg” Reed, many nephews and cousins; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and many friends and neighbors in the Adirondack Mountains and the Mohawk Valley.

 

She was predeceased by her husband; parents; stepson, Kenneth Murphy; her brothers, Norman, Eugene and James Emrich; and her sisters, Dorothy Goodwin and Virginia Smithson.

 

Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West St., Ilion.

 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, West St., Ilion, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Catena, Pastor.  Spring burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, next to her husband, Raymond.

 

The family wishes to thank the staff at Folts Home, Herkimer, for their excellent care of Marie during her residency in Rehab.
