Obituary of Jeanette A Smithson

 

ILION – HERKIMER – Mrs. Jeanette A. Smithson, 92, passed away on Tuesday April 17, 2018. She was born on September 2, 1925 in Frankfort, NY, a daughter of the late Frank and Zayda (Blunt) Fragale. She was a 1943 Graduate of Mohawk High School and attended Utica Memorial Hospital RN program of which she also was a Graduate. Her marriage to George Smithson took place November 16, 1946 in Ilion, NY; a blessed union of nearly 52 years until the passing of George on August 1, 1998. Jeanette was a Registered Nurse, namely at Ilion Hospital and as well for Dr. Weeden and Dr. Applegate. She dedicated 38 years to her nursing profession, retiring in 1984. She was a former member of the Church of Annunciation and was dedicated to her family. She loved to read and was an excellent cook.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Robert Wright of Herkimer and a son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Anne Smithson of Baldwinsville, NY, a sister, Eleanor Scalise of Herkimer, her grandchildren, Jillian Wright of Yonkers, NY, Sarah Barrett and her husband Eric of Williston, Vermont, and Peter Smithson and wife Nina of Ashburn, Virginia, great-grandchildren Jacob and Allison Barrett and Vivian and Dean Smithson, a sister-in-law, Hilda Wright of Ilion, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 19, 2018 at 9:00 AM at The Church of Annunciation, Ilion, NY where her Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated. Interment will take place later this spring at Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. There are no public calling hours. Arrangements are with the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West Street, Ilion, NY. Donations may be considered to either Homelife at Folts of Herkimer or to a charity of one’s choice in memory of Jeanette.

“Nurses Family” would like to thank Homelife at Folts for their loving, kind and simply outstanding compassionate care. The 3rd Floor was wonderful and most recently the 1st Floor.
