Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" Deming

LITTLE FALLS - Elizabeth “Betty” Deming passed away May 4, 2018. Born April 25, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Charlotte (Timler) Seifried. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School and the recipient of a four - year Degree, Utica College. During World War II she went to Washington, D.C. and worked at the Pentagon. She married Joseph Royce Deming, Sr. Nov. 2, 1946 at St. Mary’s Church, Little Falls with Fr. Edward Heenan officiating. He passed away June 3, 1988. She retired from Herkimer County Social Services retiring at age 72. Betty was a manager at Lurries before it closed. She was a union president at Salada, member of Little Falls Common Council, president LF Chapter AARP, grand dame at Red Hat Society, member American Legion Auxiliary, LF Alderwoman, worked at Board of Elections, member of the Holy Family Parish Rosary Society, member of Christian Women, and member LF Mannechor. Betty was a patient advocate at Little Falls Hospital. In fact, while a patient for several months at the hospital, Betty was given passes to attend common council meetings and then subsequently brought back to the hospital! This was attributed to her fulfilling her Alderwoman responsibilities. We fondly remember her as the Eleanor Roosevelt of Little Falls. She is survived by her children, Marsha Watson-Weckesser (Henry), Joseph Royce Deming, Jr., and Lisha Glinsman (Brian), 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren as well as two on the way. Also surviving are a sister Anna Seifried and sister in law Audrey.
