Obituary of Ellen M. Dagenkolb

 

MOHAWK-RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Ellen M. Dagenkolb, age 93, of the Mohawk Homestead, formerly of Richfield Springs, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, with her family by her side.

 

She was born on June 6, 1924, in Ilion, the daughter of Walter and Annabelle (Schneegas) Dievendorf.  Ellen graduated from Mohawk High School and the Utica School of Commerce.  On May 13, 1944, she was married to Clark L. Dagenkolb, in Colorado Springs, CO.  Ellen and Clark were married for 68 years.  Clark died on September 10, 2012.  Ellen was employed at American Greetings, Agway, in Coxsackie and Burrill Saw & Tool Works.  Most recently, she worked as a secretary at Remington Arms Co., Ilion.  At one time, Ellen and Clark bought a chicken farm with 2000 chickens, in Brookfield.  She then moved with Clark’s job to Millers Mills, Edmeston, Coxsackie and then to Richfield Springs.  Finally, she recently moved to the Mohawk Homestead in 2012, following Clark’s death.  She was a member of the Jesus Never Fails Community Church, in North Columbia.

 

Surviving family members include her 4 daughters, Diana Brockelbank, of Ilion, Rev. Nancy Araujo, of Marcy, Debra Payne and her husband, Kenneth, of Wappengers Falls, and Kristi Johnston and her husband, Donald, of Mansfield, MA; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; her sister, MaryLou Hodder, of Cobleskill; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her sister, Hazel Gilman; and her brother, Albert Dievendorf.

 

Ellen’s Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., at the Jesus Never Fails Community Church, Elizabethtown Rd., Ilion (Town of Columbia) with Pastor Hans Drews, officiating.
