Obituary of Carol A. Barr

FRANKFORT – Mrs. Carol Ann (Cattat) Barr, age 77, a lifelong Frankfort resident, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday afternoon, July 31, 2018, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.

Born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1940, Carol was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Rossow) Cattat. She was raised and educated in Frankfort, graduating with the Frankfort-Schuyler Class of 1960.

On August 17, 1963, Carol was wed to Leo D. Barr at St. Mary’s Church in Frankfort, and together they shared in a lifelong commitment of 55 years. They held a mutual respect and faithfulness to one another, and their bond withstood the tests of time. Carol’s devotion as a wife was evident in the way she cared for her husband these last few years as his illness progressed. The love they shared was incredible and their lives were intertwined in every way. 

During the first part of Carol’s adult life, she served as a homemaker, tending to the needs of her husband and children with grace and dignity. Once her children were grown, Carol made the decision to become a New York State Certified Daycare Provider. For over thirty years she welcomed children into her home and selflessly nurtured and loved them as if they were her own. To this day, grown men and women would greet her with a warm embrace and echo the phrase she taught them in their childhood, “Be good. Show love.”

One of Carol’s most prominent traits was her ability to truly live as a good Christian woman. She was a member of the Little Falls First Assembly of God for thirty years, and took on many roles in the church, including: the preparation of communion, organizing church dinners and giving the missionary reports at Sunday Service. Her faith in God guided her throughout her life and she was a constant witness to his goodness and mercy; praying over the sick and dying, offering biblical guidance to her friends and family, and setting a true example to those who were blessed enough to know her.

Second only to God, was Carol’s love and devotion to her family. She was a caring wife, a wonderful mother and a doting and supportive grandmother. Together with her husband, Leo, the two never missed a concert or sporting event for their grandchildren. Nothing gave her more joy than gathering the entire family in her home, and she was known for her Christmas Eve Baccala and her famous Jello Molds! Her legacy will forever live on through them and her memory will never be forgotten.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Leo; her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Lori Barr of Little Falls and David and Ann Marie Barr of Syracuse; her daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Mike Rosati of Frankfort; and her sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Frank LaPuma of Frankfort, with whom she shared an incredible bond and friendship unlike any other. She also leaves her grandchildren, Jarred Barr and fiancée, Krystle Stolba of Frankfort; Jamie Barr and Gabriella Caruso of Herkimer; Jordyn Barr and Dylan Hoffman of New Hartford; and Kylie Rosati, Tyler Rosati and Carter Rosati, all of Frankfort. She eagerly anticipated the arrival of her first biological great-grandchild, Cylus, due to arrive in September. She also leaves Nicole and Kyle Shirvani and their son, Crew, Jaymie and Joe Johnson and their daughter, Joelle, and Michael Rosati, all of whom she loved as grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Arnold Owens; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and especially all of the children that she was so blessed to have provided daycare for throughout the years: you all held a special place in her heart.

Besides her parents, Carol was predeceased by her brother, George Cattat.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Carol’s visitation on Sunday, August 5, 2018 from 3:00PM – 6:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Carol’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday morning, August 6, 2018 at 11:00AM at the funeral home, with Pastor Tim Parisi officiating. Procession will follow to Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frankfort, where her earthly remains will be laid to rest.
