Obituary of Rose Zaccaria

HERKIMER/SYRACUSE – Mrs. Rose Zaccaria, age 95, a longtime Herkimer resident, and currently of the Syracuse area, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 7, 2018.

Born on August 27, 1922, in Ropolla, Italy, Rose was the daughter of the late Michael and Valentina (Marchitello) Cocolicchio. As a child, she immigrated with her parents to Montreal, Canada, where she spent her childhood and early adult life. On July 21, 1946, she was wed to Mr. Rene Zaccaria, and together they shared in a blessed union of over forty-five years, until Rene’s passing in 1992.

Rose and Rene relocated to Herkimer in 1955, and it was there that they established roots and raised a family. For eighteen years, Rose was employed as an assembler with H.M. Quackenbush in Herkimer. She also spent many years babysitting out of her home. Her loving and nurturing ways were not only extended to her children and grandchildren, but also to all those who were blessed to spend time growing up in her home.   Rose was an excellent cook, and spent many happy hours cooking her Italian specialties for her family.  She was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis de Sales in Herkimer. Her endearing and caring nature, along with her strong faith, will be her legacy to those that she leaves behind.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Stephen Claybourne of Anderson, SC; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Susan Zaccaria of Clay, NY; her grandchildren, Lisa and Craig Ethington, Kelly Brennan, Catherine and Ben Hebert, and Michael and Kimberly Zaccaria; and her eight beloved great-grandchildren, Camryn, Bryson, Tyler, Colin, Zachary, Anthony, Joseph, Avery and Theodore.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Biaz, and a sister, Lucy.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Thursday evening, August 9, 2018, from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011. Rose’s funeral service will commence on Friday morning, August 10, 2018, at 9:15AM at the funeral home and at 10:00AM at St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mark Cunningham, Pastor. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery in Herkimer, where her earthly remains will be laid to rest beside her husband, Rene.
