Obituary of Ann I. Recchio

FRANKFORT – Mrs. Ann (Datena) Recchio, age 90, a lifelong Frankfort resident, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, August 10, 2018, in the privacy and comfort of her son’s home. She was comforted with the love and support of her family by her bedside, as they let her know it was safe to leave them.

Born on June 3, 1928, Ann was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Frank) Datena. She was raised and educated in Frankfort and was a graduate from Frankfort High School. It was while attending a dance, that Ann met and fell in love with Mr. Thomas Recchio, and together they danced through 68 years of marriage; one filled with love, laughter and many happy memories. They cared for each other in every way, until Tom’s passing on January 21, 2016. A piece of Ann’s heart went with him that day, and her family takes great comfort in knowing that the two are dancing together once again.

Although she fulfilled the traditional roles of housewife and mother at home, Ann was not afraid of hard work and she helped her husband in supporting their family through her many years of work at Sperry UNIVAC in Utica and MDS in Herkimer.

“Nonny”, as she was affectionately known to her family, was the epitome of a dedicated wife, supportive mother and loving grandmother. She kept a pristine home, where nothing was ever out of place, and a speck of dust could never be found. Every night, her husband and children came home to a fresh-cooked meal, and she always put her family before herself, making sure none of them ever went without. She was the consummate hostess, filling dishes with snacks and treats and filling the bellies of everyone around her table.

As her children grew, and started their own families, nothing made Ann happier than when her house was full of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For many years, she babysat out of her home, not only for her own, but for her nieces, nephews and friends. The revolving door of company never seemed to end, and Ann never seemed to mind. She was loving, caring and nurturing and although mostly sweet in nature, she was never afraid to wag that finger, speak her mind and tell it like it was…all while wearing that beautiful smile on her face.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Francesca and Francis Nicastro of Manassas, VA and Judy and Michael Ciallelo of Frankfort; her sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Sharon Recchio of Frankfort and Louis and Donna Recchio of Royal Palm Beach, FL; and her grandchildren, Jude Nicastro, Dominique and Aeran Doron, Cory and Kacey Nicastro, Kelly and Ahmadu Ahmed, Brandon and Molly Ciallelo, Nicole and Fred Castronovo, Shawn Ciallelo, Chad and Michelle Ciallelo, Marcus and Kristine Recchio, Chrisandra Recchio, Christopher and Jonna Recchio and Joseph Recchio. Always close to Ann’s heart were the memories of her three beloved grandsons, Michael Recchio, David Recchio and Jason Recchio, who she is now reunited with in heaven. She also leaves her eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; her brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Norma Datena of Indiana; her sisters-in-law, Violet Datena, of Indiana; Lena Vulcano, Ida DelGuidice and Jesse Siniscarco, all of Syracuse; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides her parents, husband and grandsons, Ann was predeceased by her sisters, Josephine, Nancy, Rose and Donna, and her brothers, George and John.

Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Ann’s funeral will commence on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at 10:30AM at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort, where a Memorial Mass will be offered by Rev. Paul Catena, Pastor. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family.
