Obituary of LeRoy M. "Roy" Huyck

 

ILION – LeRoy “Roy” M. Huyck, age 85, of E. Clark St., Ilion, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.

 

He was born on September 15, 1932, in Cooperstown, NY, the son of Homer and Irene (Mahar) Huyck and graduated from Richfield Springs High School and attended Morrisville CollegeRoy was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the US Air Force.  On September 22, 1956, he was married to Marion M. Holmes, at the Ilion Methodist ChurchRoy was employed as an inspector at Remington Arms Co., Ilion, for 27 years, retiring in November 1990.  He also worked at UNIVAC in Ilion and Utica for 8 years.  Mr. Huyck was a life member of the Ilion VFW and a member of the Ilion Fish & Game Club.  He was devoted to his grandchildren.

 

Surviving family members include his beloved wife, Marion; his daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Daniel Kucerak, of Ilion; Grandchildren, Crystal Massey and her husband, Steven, of VA, and Joshua Huyck and wife, Meghan, of Hagaman, NY; five great-grandchildren, Martin, Patrick and Daniel Massey, and Charlotte and Leora Huyck, and Jayden Huyck; his sister, Barbara Gay, of Oneonta; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his coffee group at McDonald’s, in Ilion.

 

He was predeceased by his son, Martin “Marty” Huyck, in 1982; and his sister, Audrey Olsen.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018, from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West St., Ilion.

 

Roy’s Memorial service and Celebration of Life will follow visitation at 1:00 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Wallaber, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Ilion Ambulance Fund, Central Fire Station, Ilion, NY 13357, or Morning Star United Methodist Church of Ilion, 36 Second St., Ilion, NY 13357.  Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

 

Roy’s service arrangements and supervision were prearranged and are entrusted to his family Funeral Director and friend, Don Applegate.
