MOHAWK – Steven A. “Geeber” DeRosa, 54, of Mohawk, passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2018.

Born in Ilion, NY, November 27, 1963, he was the son of John A. and Audrey (Annekin) DeRosa and was educated in Mohawk schools. He was currently employed with the Town of German Flatts, Master Mechanic. Steve was the gentle giant of Mohawk. He loved to play the drums and loved music in general, and all his friends. He excelled with mechanical work and was an excellent welder. He could fix anything and was very smart. We fondly reflect upon his ‘Sunday School Gatherings.’ He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and a longtime member of the Mohawk Fire Department as well as an Exempt Member. He was a large presence in all our lives and will be extremely missed.

He is survived by his mother, Audrey “Peachy”; his love and confidant, Molly Bruce Johnson, of Mohawk; and Molly’s children, Emma R. Johnson and Brady T. Johnson; his brothers, John S. “Chuck” DeRosa and wife Bonnie, of Mohawk, David DeRosa, of Schenectady, NY and Tim DeRosa and his significant other, Jody Phillips, of Mohawk; his niece, Sara Jones and husband, Greg, of Ilion; two special great-nieces, Sydney Rose Jones and Schyler Rae Jones; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, John, in 2002.

His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday September 28, 2018 from 5 until 8 PM at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street in Herkimer, NY. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer.  We would like to extend a very special thank you to all who have helped us during this very difficult time. At the conclusion of calling hours, 8 PM, the Fire Department will walk through as a tribute to their comrade.

In lieu of flowers, donations are considered to the Sons of Mohawk American Legion, or Mohawk Fish and Game Club.

Arrangements are with Harry & Kevin Enea and Martin Ciaccia, 315-866-1011. Online notes of sympathy may be extended at www.eneafamily.com on the Internet.
