Obituary of Charles R. Wilson, Sr.

ILION – Mr. Charles R. “Charlie” Wilson, age 97, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, October 31, 2018, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Born on October 15, 1921, Charles was the son of the late William H. and Eva I. (Miers) Wilson. He was raised and educated in Mohawk. In January of 1942, Charlie was wed to the former Mary J. Wheeler, and together they shared in sixty-six blessed years of marriage, until Mary’s passing on September 23, 2008.

Soon after Charlie and Mary were married, Charlie enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during World War II. As the years went on, Charlie maintained his membership in the Ilion American Legion and was proud to see his son and grandson follow in his military footsteps.

Charlie retired from the position of Foreman with the Village of Ilion after forty years of service. He also maintained many clients over the years, with his window washing business, Windows by Wilson. He and his wife, Mary, were long time parishioners of the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion.

Survivors include his son, Charles “Chuck” Wilson, Jr. and his companion, Marilyn Cox of Richfield Springs; his daughter, Mary Ann (Wilson) Scott and her companion, Nathan Butrum of Las Vegas; his three grandchildren, Charles R. Wilson, III, Kevin Scott and wife, Andrea, and Tammy (Scott) Wigens and husband, Tony; his great-grandchildren, Kyle and Ashley, Faith, and Josh; and his great-great grandson, Blake. He also leaves his sisters, Shirley Bereza of Herkimer and Fern Helmer of Mohawk; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his wife, Mary, Charlie was predeceased by his son, Danny Ray Wilson; his sisters, Mildred Wilson, Bertha Eysman, Mary Miers and Betty Hadcock; and his brothers, Bill Wilson, Seymour Wilson and Dick Wilson.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Charlie’s visitation on Monday evening, November 5, 2018 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Charlie’s funeral service will commence at 7:00PM at the funeral home, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation, with the Rev. Paul Catena of the Church of the Annunciation, officiating. Private interment will take place at Mohawk Cemetery at the convenience of Charlie’s family.

For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions to the Herkimer County Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
