Obituary of Jeffrey "Brownie" L. Brown

MOHAWK – Jeffrey “Brownie” L. Brown, age 65, of Putts Hill Rd., Mohawk, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, NY.

He was born on August 29, 1953, in Herkimer, the son of Robert F. and Rosemary (Williams) Brown.  Jeff graduated from Mohawk High School, in 1972 and Fulton-Montgomery Community College.  Mr. Brown worked as an auto glass installer at Brown-Randall, Inc., Herkimer for 20 years.  Jeff was also the owner and operator of Brownie Glass Works, in Mohawk.  He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Mohawk, the Crowley Barnum American Legion Post, Raquette Lake Fish and Game Club and a Snowmobile Club.  Jeff enjoyed outdoor activities, including fishing, boating, hiking, snowmobiling and golfing and camping at Golden Beach, Raquette Lake, NY.  Jeff was a loving, exasperating man, an incredible athlete, a seeker of excitement and thrills, a help to all who came to him, a lover of music and a friend to all.  He lived fully and with joy.  He survived an incredible accident and in doing so brought understanding and compassion to his life.

Surviving family members include his mother, Rosemary Brown, of Mohawk; his daughters, Hayley Brown, of Hempstead, L.I., NY and Sydney Brown, of Rocky Mount, VA; his brothers, Robert Brown and James Brown and his wife, Janet, all of Mohawk; his long-time girl friend, companion, and the “love of his life”, Dolores “Dee” Dawidowicz; his niece, Karlee (Brown) Davis; his nephews, Robert  Brown, Michael Brown and his wife, Kristine, and Matthew and Daniel Brown; his great niece and nephew, Julia and John Davis; several cousins; and many, many friends including Doug Murphy, Owen March, Bob Luther and Marty Marineau; and his dog, Rosie; and cats, Snickers and Blacky.

He was predeceased by his father, Robert F. Brown, owner of Brown-Randall.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger facility, at 4309 Acme Rd. (old Main St.) between Ilion and Frankfort.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2018, at Grace Episcopal Church, E. Main St., Mohawk, with the Rev. Sally Heiligman, Rector, officiating.

The Brown family would like to thank the staff at the Resource Center for Independent Living (RCIL) for their fantastic care of Jeff for 6 years.  He was able to live at home because the staff was able to be there every day he needed them.
