Obituary of John A. Weeks

MOHAWK – Mr. John A. Weeks, 70, of Mohawk, NY, passed away surrounded with his wife and three loving daughter’s love on Friday evening, November 16, 2018, at MVHS, St. Luke’s Healthcare, Town of New Hartford, NY.

Born on July 25, 1948, in Ilion, NY, he was the son of the late John “Whitey” and Irene (Alafberg) Weeks. He was educated in Mohawk schools, then Proctor in Utica, and lastly was a graduate of the then Manlius Military School. John was a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran, United States Army, 82^nd Airborne Division. On September 4, 1971, John joined in marriage with the love of his life, Barbara J. DeLong, at the Mohawk Methodist Church. They were dedicated to one another and raised a beautiful family together. John had worked with Iron Workers Local 440 in Utica and retired in 2005. He was a lifetime member of the Ilion/Frankfort VFW Post #502 and a faithful longtime member of the Mohawk American Legion Post #25.

John spent his time in enjoyable ways such as stamp collecting, hunting (with a special liking of ducks), fishing, camping, garage sales and first and foremost nurturing and hanging out with his beloved family who survive him, his wife of 47 years, Barbara; his cherished daughters, Jennifer Watkins and her husband, Harry, of Mohawk, Linda Saunders, of Utica and Brenda Weeks, of Mohawk; his amazing grandchildren, Hunter and Parker Watkins, Morgan and Madison Saunders and Eliza Jones; two sisters, Shirley Schmidt and Ethel Weeks; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins; and In-Laws, all of whom he thought the world of.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at 8:00 PM at the conclusion of the calling hours listed below from The Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort) with Sr. Mary Jo Tallman, officiating. At the conclusion of the evening at the funeral home all are invited back to Barb & John’s house in Mohawk.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, from 5 until 8 PM at the funeral home. The Ilion/Frankfort VFW Post will gather in a body at the funeral home on Tuesday evening to offer their service at 6:00 PM. The Mohawk American Legion will gather in a body at the funeral home on Tuesday evening to offer their service at 7:45 PM.

Interment will take place on Monday, November 26, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at Mohawk Cemetery II Annex, Vickerman Hill with a graveside service that will pay tribute to John’s excelled military service to our country, honoring him at that time with a 21 - gun salute, Taps and flag presentation. At the conclusion of the cemetery services on Monday all are invited to join with the family at the Mohawk American Legion.
