Obituary of Sally Ann Dennis

ILION – Sally Ann (Siver) Dennis, age 77, a long time Mohawk Valley resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 20, 2018, at The Grand Rehab and Nursing Center at Mohawk Valley.

Born on July 13, 1941, Sally was the daughter of the late Floyd L. and Dorothy L. (Mower) Siver. She was raised and educated locally and attended Ilion schools.

On March 15, 1958, Sally was wed to Mr. Carl W. Dennis, and from their relationship came the blessings of five children. Their friendship continued throughout their lives, and Sally was by his side when he passed on May 4, 2018. Sally also shared in a second marriage with the late Harold J. Bose.

As a young woman, at one time Sally worked for Duofold in Mohawk as well as for the Allegro Shoe Company in Little Falls. The majority of her career, however, was spent as a Certified Nurse’s Aide at the Masonic Care Community of CNY in Utica, where she was employed for over twenty years.

Sally was very involved within her community. She served as the Vice President and Steward for the Service Employee International Union Local 200A during her time at Masonic; and was a member of the Marigold Triangle group. At one time she was a parishioner of the West Schuyler United Methodist Church, as well as a member of their women’s organization. In the summer she volunteered her time with the Herkimer County Fair where she served as flower superintendent and a fair assistant. She also was a proud member of the Mohawk Valley Golden Eagles Drum and Bugle Corps.

Sally was all about her family and cherished any time that she spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. She enjoyed cooking, baking and caring for those around her. Her outgoing, caring and loving personality will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Carl W. Dennis, Jr. and wife, Virginia of Ilion, Alva A. Dennis and wife, Nancy of Mohawk, Theresa P. Corsette and husband, Lawrence of Mohawk, Kathleen A. Boepple and husband, Stacey of Mohawk, and Michael L. Dennis and wife, Dawn of Ilion; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves her dear friends, Viola Reska and Carol Ostroski.

Sally was predeceased by her sisters, Alycé Mae Hagadorn and Shirley Ann Benedict; and by her dear friend, Dorothy “Dolly” MacMasters.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Sally’s visitation on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 2:00PM – 4:00PM and from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family’s larger facility, located at 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 2:00PM – 3:00PM, with members of the Ilion/Frankfort VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary gathering at 2:45PM for their ritualistic service.

Sally’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday at 3:00PM at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Wollaber, officiating. Spring interment will take place in Mohawk Cemetery.

For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 100 Lomond Court, Utica, NY 13502. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Sally’s funeral arrangements and final wishes were entrusted to Martin Ciaccia, Don Applegate and Harry and Kevin Enea, Funeral Directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.applegateandday.com.
