Obituary of Edward L. Burns

 

MOHAWK – Edward L. Burns, age 85, of Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 14, 2018.

 

He was born on February 19, 1933, in Ilion, the son of Edward J. Burns, Jr. and Edyth (Leonhardt) Burns.  Ed graduated from Mohawk High School in 1951 and Albany College of Pharmacy in 1955.  He was a veteran serving in the US Army.  In his early years he was a Pharmacist and managed the Gallangers Pharmacy in Herkimer.  Ed later became the owner and operator of the Burns Pharmacy in Mohawk for over 40 years.  He was a devoted lifetime member of the Mohawk Reformed Church, sang in the choir and served on its consistory.  Mr. Burns enjoyed sports, including football, basketball, baseball and Thoroughbred Horse Racing at Saratoga.

 

Surviving family members include his brother, Leighton Burns; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

He was predeceased by his mother and father; his sister, Carol B. Hayes; and his brother, Robert J. Burns.

 

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West St., Ilion.

 

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at the Mohawk Reformed Church, 20 S. Otsego St., Mohawk, NY, with Rev. Brian Engel, officiating.
