Obituary of Edward J. "Monte" Perlock

ILION – Mr. Edward J. “Monte” Perlock, age 89, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 19, 2018, at Valley Health Services in Herkimer. Monte lived a long and blessed life and his family takes great comfort in knowing that he is in the loving arms of God and once again reunited with his beloved wife, Jean.

Edward was born on July 30, 1929, the son of Marc and Catherine (Piendel) Perlock. He was raised and educated in Utica and attended local schools. On November 4, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Jean Barczak, and together they spent over sixty-one years of marriage, filled with love, support and mutual respect; Jean passed away on February 14, 2012.

In 1952, Edward became a United States Marine and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He remained an ardent patriot throughout the rest of his life and was a longtime member of the Ilion Marine Corps.

Upon his return from war, Monte began his career with the Kelsey-Hayes Company in Whitesboro, retiring as a foreman after over forty years of dedicated service. When he wasn’t working, he could often be found acting as a handyman and fixing things around his and his children’s homes.

He and his wife Jean found no greater joy than when their beloved family were gathered together in their home; his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to him and were truly his life’s greatest accomplishments.

In his free time, Monte enjoyed the great outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He passed on these traditions to his family and they spent many summers at their family camp in the Adirondacks; times which will be forever remembered and can never be replaced.

Monte was a kind-hearted, gentle and generous individual who made a lasting impression on all who were blessed enough to cross paths with him. Some of his favorite things to do included listening to Saturday morning polka music and keeping a secret stash of gum in his pocket at all times, which he loved to hand out to others. Besides the Marine Corps League, Monte was involved with the Ilion Knights of Columbus and was a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Annunciation.

Monte is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia “Patty” and George Branck of Frankfort and Deborah “Debbie” and Matthew Marley of Ilion; his grandchildren, Nicole Branck-Redmond and her husband, Chuck, Lisa Branck, Ashley McDonald and her husband, Kyle, Benjamin Marley and Samantha Fox and Connor Marley; and his great-grandchildren, Cole, Christopher, Mia, Kali, Kyler, Dash and Ryder. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his brothers, John Perlock, Joseph Perlock and Stanley Perlock; and by his sisters, Mary Zysk, Ann Rumbutis and Delores Guca.

A special thank you is extended to the caregivers at the Mohawk Homestead and at Valley Health Services, for the compassion and kindness shown to Monte and his family throughout the last few years.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Monte’s visitation which will take place on Christmas Eve, Monday morning, December 24, 2018 from 8:30AM – 9:30AM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000.

Monte’s funeral service will commence on Monday, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation, at 9:45AM at the funeral home and at 10:30AM at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Paul Catena, Pastor. Procession will follow to St. Stanislaus & St. Casimir Societies Cemetery in Whitesboro, where his earthly remains will be laid to rest beside his wife, Jean. Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Marines Honor Guard.
