Obituary of Helen Balderston

LITTLE FALLS – Mrs. Helen V. Balderston, age 94, a longtime Little Falls resident, passed away peacefully on her favorite holiday, Christmas of 2018.  She was known to many who loved her as Mrs. Claus. The significance of her passing on this day will mean much in our hearts and add light to this day for all Christmases to come.

Born on January 26, 1924, Helen was one of twelve children of the late Zenon and Mary (Kiewlicz) Dawidowicz. She married and raised a family with the late Harry Balderston, until his passing in 1986.

Helen was a hardworking woman. Her greatest love, however, was caring for her family. She kept a home filled with love and happiness. She had a gift in the kitchen and was an excellent cook and baker; making food and cakes for many weddings, graduations and birthdays throughout the years.  She was also a skilled ceramist and kept a shop within her home. Her family meant the world to her and as the generations grew, so did the love in her heart. Her kindness and nurturing ways knew no bounds. She will be missed by all whom were impacted by her love.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Patricia Balderston of Jacksonville, FL, Harry “Zenny” and Molly Balderston of The Villages, FL, Charles and Fina Balderston of Fort Plain, NY, Kenneth and Janet Balderston of Little Falls, NY; and her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Bob VanDenbergh of Deansboro, NY; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She also leaves two sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her eleven brothers and sisters.

In keeping with Helen’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services at this time. A Celebration of Helen’s Life will take place at a later date and time, at the convenience of her family.

Contributions can be made in Helen’s name to Hospice & Palliative Care Inc, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd, New Hartford, NY 13413 or Barton Hose Company, 2640 State Route 12B, Deansboro, NY 13328

Helen’s final wishes were pre-arranged and entrusted to Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY (315) 823-2424.
