Obituary of Catherine -Anne "Cathy" Sefchick

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Catherine-Anne “Cathy” Sefchick, 71, of St. Johnsville, New York, passed away Monday evening, April 1, 2019, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, NY. Her loving family was at her side.

She was born on April 30, 1947, in Newark, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Louis J. and Eileen (Lynch) Deis. She earned her beauty culture degree at Bergen Tech, Hackensack, New Jersey. Cathy lived in the St. Johnsville area since 2001. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed a special passion for fostering cats at her home and having fun, especially with the Red Hat Society of which she enjoyed membership with. She was also a member of the St. Johnsville Business Women’s Association.

Survivors include her son, Michael Fried, of St. Johnsville; her sisters and brothers and their spouses, Susan Openhym and husband, Ted, Nancy Deis, Brian Deis and his wife, Janet, Paul Deis and his wife, Dorothy, Bernadette Maiorana and her husband, Angelo and Rosemarie Collopy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Cathy leaves behind many friends that meant so much to her and one of her dearest friends was Brittany who helped her immensely.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ted; a sister, Cynthia Stoddart and her husband, Wayne; a brother, Louis Deis; her brother-in-law, Thomas Collopy; and sister-in-law, Carol Deis.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019, at 3:00 PM, from The Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, in St. Johnsville, New York, with Rev. David A. Johnson, officiating. Calling hours at the Enea Family Funeral Home will also be held on Monday, April 8, 2019, from 2 until 3 PM.
