Obituary of John "Jack" Hughes

LITTLE FALLS - John “Jack” Hughes sadly died on April 29, 2019 following complications related to cancer. He was 84 years old.

 

Jack was born on May 18,1934, in Little Falls NY, to parents John and Matilda Hughes. He graduated from Little Falls High School in 1952 and served in the United States Marine Corp from 1952-1955 and then pursued his newspaper career at Merganthaler Linotype School, in Manhattan. He also achieved his dream of being a truck driver and was happily employed at Burnam Trucking Company near Johnson City NY for many years.

 

Jack married Lois A. Brundjar on October 20,1956, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls, NY. Jack and Lois resided along with their three daughters in Johnson City NY until Lois Hughes’s death in 1999.

 

Jack, also lovingly known to his family as “Gramper” is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Bob Fox, his daughter, Jacqueline Hughes, and his daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Tom Cipolla; his 6 grandchildren; 3 great- grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Malcolm and Ellen Hughes and their 2 children. He is also survived by his loving partner, Janice Perkins and their many furry friends that brought him much happiness in Speculator,NY.

 

Jack loved his family, friends and pets! He had an uncanny knack for getting to know everyone that he came in contact with. He lived a simple and independent life until the end. “I did it my way” by Frank Sinatra sums it up and he will be missed very much!

 

A private Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 25th at 1 p.m., at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls, NY, with full military honors.
