Obituary of Mary Grippe

FRANKFORT-The Grippe family of Frankfort, mourn the loss of their beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Mary Alice (Cobb) Grippe, 81, who went home to be with the Lord in the presence and love of family members peacefully on Monday evening, September 29, 2008 in her Acme Road residence. Mary Alice was born on April 16, 1927 in Schuyler, NY, daughter of the late Rex & Mildred (Austin) Cobb and was educated in Ilion schools. She has resided her entire married life in Frankfort, NY. On June 19, 1948 Mary Alice was united in marriage to Joseph J. Grippe at Annunciation Church, Ilion. Mrs. Grippe was at one time employed by UNIVAC and also Remington Typewriter, Ilion, prior to her co-founding J. Grippe Industrial Supply Co., Inc., Frankfort, in 1964, with her husband, Joseph. Mary Alice was deeply loved and cherished by her family. She was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, a devout Catholic, and raised her 10 children as such. She treasured time spent with her husband and family. Early on in her marriage she was an avid fan of "Joe Grippe and the Top Hatters", a "Big Band Dance Orchestra," conducted by her husband Joseph. As the family grew her summers were spent with her children at their camp in Pine Lake & Sylvan Beach. Her winters were enjoyed with Mr. Grippe at their home in Ormond Beach, Florida, with her children coming to visit. Most recently Mary Alice has enjoyed being "at home" with her Children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren always visiting and bringing a smile to her face. She loved to cook, bake, and shop. Mary Alice loved the Holidays and all the celebrations that went with them. She enjoyed Family Gatherings, Clam Bakes, BBQ's, Weddings and anything that brought her children together. Mary Alice had a strength to be admired and the patience of a saint. She was a beautiful, wonderful wife, mother, grandmother , sister and friend. She will be sadly missed yet never forgotten and her spirit will never leave those she touched. Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Joseph J. Grippe; ten adored children and their spouses: Gary Grippe and wife Sylvia of Frankfort; Jody Grippe and wife Mary Jean of Frankfort; Kimberley Grippe and Roy Fuller of Frankfort; Karen Rumrill and husband Garry of Frankfort; Jack Grippe and Suzanne Douglas of Syracuse; Wendy Button and husband John of Frankfort; Crystal Reina and husband Rick of Frankfort; Mary Alfano and husband Joe of Albany; Brian Grippe and wife Maria of Frankfort and Bridget Foti and husband John of Frankfort. Also surviving are her 39 beloved and cherished grandchildren and 10 blessed great-grandchildren. Mary Alice is survived by one brother and sister in law; Gene and Martha Cobb of Schuyler; sisters in law; Evelyn Grippe, Frankfort, Grace Grippe, Herkimer, Florence Cushman, Ilion, a brother in law: Tony Grippe and wife Arlene; Frankfort. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Rex & Mildred Cobb, a grandson, Christian Celi; her In Laws, Philip & Franchesca Grippe, Sam & Lena Grippe, Louise & Jane Grippe, Frank & Mary Grippe, Dorothy Grippe, & Marie Grippe (all of Frankfort). The Grippe family will be present at the Enea Family Funeral Home of Frankfort (4309 Acme Rd.,) to receive loved ones and friends on Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 4-8 pm. Mrs. Grippe's funeral will commence at 9:00 am on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008 from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held, and at 10 am from Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The funeral cortege will follow to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort where committal service will take place. Memorial donations may be made in her honor to Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort, Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., American Heart Association, Breast Cancer Foundation, or a charity of your choice. Donations may be made at the funeral home; envelopes will be available as well. Those needing a ride to the services may contact the Enea Family at 894-8000.
