Obituary of Charles Kotary

LITTLE FALLS-Mr. Charles A. "Charlie" Kotary, Jr., 61, of Burwell St., passed away unexpectedly at his residence. He was born on August 25, 1946 in Herkimer, son of the late Charles A. Kotary Sr. who passed away on November 16, 1996. His mother, Jeanne A. (Griffin) Kotary resides in Herkimer. Charlie graduated with Herkimer High School, "Class of 1965" and has resided in Little Falls since 1990. He was engaged to Cecile Robellard who passed away on February 16, 2006. Charles was a proud United States Army Veteran, and rightfully so. He enlisted on January 27, 1966 and was honorably discharged on January 27, 1969, serving during the Vietnam conflict and was a Disabled American Veteran. Charlie received the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Basic Recruited Badge with one Gold Achievement Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal and Sharpshooter Badge.He continued to serve with the Reserves after he was discharged until 1992, making a complete 26 years of loyal service to our country and also received the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal. He owned and operated St. Charles Painting in Little Falls and was of the Catholic faith. Charlie was a life member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #31, Fort Plain VFW Post #3275, Little Falls Elk's Lodge #42 and the Little Falls Polish Home. He loved to spend time with his family and friends and enjoyed having a good time surrounded by his Little Falls buddies and will be sadly missed. He was very active with the Little Falls Housing Authority Commission and also worked at the Little Falls Municipal Golf Course. Survivors include his mother, Jeanne of Herkimer; his former wife, Linda VanDelinder of Mohawk; two sons: Jeffrey Kotary and wife Barb of Little Falls and Jon Adam Kotary of Mohawk; a brother: Patrick J. Kotary and wife Veronica of Hampton Bays, Long Island; two sisters: Karen O'Bryan and husband Stephen of Damariscotta, Maine and Jeanne Slopnick and husband John of Mohawk; three grandchildren: Jacob, Karlee and Sara Kotary; many nieces, nephews and cousins. There are no public calling hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a memorial graveside service on Friday, July 11, 2008, commencing at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer with Deacon Jim Bower, officiating. Military honors will be offered by the United States Army. As a tribute to Charlie's dedication to our country, kindly consider a contribution to the Disabled American Veterans in his name.
