Obituary of Charles Sweet

FRANKFORT-Mr. Charles P. "Boots" Sweet, age 91, a lifelong resident of Frankfort and most recently of Folts Homes, Herkimer, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Monday morning, July 16, 2007. His passing took place in the nursing home with his loving family by his side. Boots was born on May 27th, 1916 in Little Falls, son of the late Philomena "Fannie" (Petroline) Sweet and Joseph Sweet and was educated in Herkimer schools. On April 24 th 1937 Boots was joined in marriage with Ann Rose LiBritz in St. Mary's Church in Frankfort. The couple shared a union of almost 70 years, one that was characterized by their true love, their mutual devotion, and their respect for one another. Boots served with the US Navy during WW II aboard the USS Alaska, as a Seaman First Class. He was employed by the Remington Arms as a machinist, retiring on May 31, 1968 after twenty-five plus years of service; Utica State Hospital as an attendant, retiring on May 27, 1978 after fifteen years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #845, and the Young at Heart Senior Citizens. Boots was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Community of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort. A loving son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, plus "adoptive" husband and father to his many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Loved by all who had the honor of knowing him, never without a smile or a tease, Boots will always remain in our hearts. He is survived by his beloved family; a daughter and son-in-law: Barbara & Frank Terras of Frankfort , one son and daughter-in-law: Pastor Charles J. & Sharon Sweet of Utica; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Angelo & Mary Sweet of Frankfort, Joseph & Katherine Sweet of Newport, Nick & Ada Sweet of Texas, two sisters Josephine Tartaglia of Utica, Carmella Louise Walawaender of Herkimer and one sister-in-law Bertha Sweet of Herkimer; in-laws: Michael & Sarah LiBritz of Frankfort; Mary Deasy of Ohio; seven grandchildren: Julie & Richard Perri, Barbara Palumbo & friend Mark Tomaino all of Frankfort, Valerie & Robert Krautheim of Florida, Jason & Marsha Sweet, Jeremy and Andrea Sweet, Jordan & Erica Sweet, and Justina and Donny Lowe, all of Ilion; nine great grand children; and several nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Boots was predeceased by his loving wife Ann; three brothers: William Saporito, Anthony Sweet & Michael Sweet and by three sisters, Mrs. Rose Martin, Mrs. Frances Bianco, & Mrs. Pearl Rulewicz. The family will receive family and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Frankfort and Ilion, on Wednesday, July 18th 2007 from 5 ? 8:00 p.m. Mr. Sweet's funeral will begin at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 19th 2007 from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10:30 a.m. from Our Lady Queen of Apostle's Church, Frankfort, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Alfred Lamanna, pastor emeritus. Procession will follow to All Souls Chapel of Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort, where committal prayers will be offered. Interment will follow in the family plot. Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Navy. Those needing a ride to the services may contact the Enea Family at 894-8000. The Sweet family offers its heartfelt gratitude to the many relatives and friends who have offered their support, comfort, strength and encouragement during this difficult time and for being a part of Boots' life. They would also like to thank the Folts Home first floor nursing staff for their loving care and personal devotion shown to Boots. The family would like to give a special thank you to Darleen who brought a special smile to Boot's face everyday. Memorial offerings may be made to Compassion Coalition, Inc., 509 Lafayette St., Utica, NY 13502; envelopes are also available at the funeral parlor. Members of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens of Frankfort will gather at the funeral home at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening to conduct their service. The Frankfort American Legion Post #845 will pay their respects at 7 p.m.
