Obituary of Harriet Grassel

Mrs. Harriet L. (Chrisman) Grassel, age 87, formerly of Curtis Rd., Salisbury, passed away on Monday morning, March 6, 2006 in Little Falls Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Dec. 26, 1918 a daughter of the late Charles and Lena (Mosher) Chrisman and was educated locally. Her marriage to Stanley Grassel took place November 14, 1940 in Salisbury. The couple enjoyed a blessed union of 44 years until Mr. Grassel's passing on May 1, 1984. Harriet spent many years taking care of her home and family and enjoyed playing bingo and cards. She found much enjoyment in cooking for her beloved family. She treasured the times spent with her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her children: Stanley C. Grassel, Jr. and wife Jacqueline of Nelliston, Edna Green and husband Richard of Dolgeville, Rosemary Atkinson of Ilion, Jean Hicks of Ilion, Joann Baker of Ephrata, and Patricia Gray and husband Daniel of Fort Plain; one brother: Robert Chrisman, Sr. of Little Falls; 31 grandchildren and 61 great grandchildren who were all very special to Harriet. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins and by Robert Kinville who was very close to her. Harriet was predeceased by her son: James Grassel on Nov. 13, 2003; her siblings: Louise Barnes and Katherine Brownell and Harold, Charles, Herb and James Chrisman; a son in law: Manley Baker on May 3, 2002; a grandson: Kristopher Potter on Feb. 4, 1999; four infant grandchildren and by her niece Shirley A. (Chrisman) Fiaschetti on March 5, 2006. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home, 3 E. Faville Ave., Dolgeville, on Thursday, March 9, 2006 from 5-8 p.m. Mrs. Grassel's funeral will commence at 11am on Friday, March 10, 2006, from the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Albrecht, pastor of the Salisbury United Methodist Church, officiating. She will be laid to rest this spring in Salisbury Rural Cemetery. Memorial offerings may be made to S & S Ambulance Corps. or to the Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral parlor.
