I want to start by saying my prayers go out to the whole Redmond family.I have worked at Cottage Street for 3 years and I always looked forward to seeing Rich everyday what did he have waiting for me what joke was up his sleave.. Rich will be missed and I know each time I look out the window and se e a pretty flower or a bird I knoe I will think of Rich and know that it was sent by him to make my day better.. god bless to all

I had known Richard for about 20 years. When I transferred to work at Cottage St. is when I first met him. I must say that in all the years since, and when I last visited him a couple of weeks before his passing, that he had not changed a bit. We joked at our last visit noting that Richard had more hair and less gray than I do despite him being 17 years older than me. When I walked into his room his face had a big smile on it and he extended his hand to shake mine and he said 'Hello Dan'. We visited for about an hour and talked about old times and his family. Richard looked and acted good and was in good spirits. It was evident Richard was adjusting well and quickly became a favorite of the staff at the nursing home. In all the years I worked for the HARC Richard is, without a doubt, one who I will remember the most. The stories and memories I have with him are many and cherished. I think it may be due in part that we had similar interests such as the great outdoors and that our sense of humor would sometimes catch people off guard. Richard loved to joke around and bust chops. I'd like to note a few memories of Richard. I am sure there will come days when something happens that jars my memory of an event with Richard that I have forgotten to include. Here are a few.... Richard fishing on the Mohawk River with staff and during the fishing derby each year. I think he always caught one. Richard writing down the names of the states and various birds. He loved sitting near a window or outside and naming that bird. At one time he had a camera trained on a bird feeder that he could click remotely and take pictures. Weekly Saturday morning visits from his parents. They were always pleasant and involved. All the letters and correspondance Richard received from his family. The weekly postcards from Bob and Pati. The big guy who used to come on holidays and other times in the blue chevy van to bring Richard to his parents for the day. When Richard and I flew to Florida for a vacation. He sat by the window. We went on some rides at Universal-he really enjoyed the Tower of Terror-and of course he marveled at all the flowers and animals. Our last night there we were narrowly missed by several tornadoes. Playing electronic battleship with him and groaning to his delight when he sank my ships. collecting bookfulls of stamps over the years. going for long walks in the neighborhood.Visiting the zoos and doing day trips. Getting Richard ready to go to his father's dedication of the naming of the medical center in Barneveld after him. planting flowers together all the cards and gifts of special interest that Richard received from family. Several of his siblings going out to dinner with him at the WAterfront Grille. Richard valued his family. He frequently pointed out and named his siblings in pictures. He was a wonderful friend and person who was warm and caring and who always had a laugh and smile that would lift you and brighten your day. I was a little angry at first when I found out he passed away and then quite saddened. I am honored to have known Richard and his family and to have had the opportunity to serve them. Richard shared his love of birds with me - I think of him everytime I'm sitting in my dining room, watching the birds outside my window in my own feeder, flipping through my "Birds of North America" book. That was not his only gift to me - his courage, sense of humor and perseverence through the 15+ years I knew him humbled me and made me always conscious of how lucky and blessed I was even when things seemed difficult. As director of the Residential program, I appreciated the support of Rich's family, as I know he did. My condolences and prayers go out to you all, Richard will be missed.

Best wishes to everyone in your family for being there for Richie. He really was a great guy. I was recently one of the advocates for him when he was at Cottage Street and he always gave us at least one great thing to look forward to when coming to work every day. I am honored to have been the one to put on his 60th birthday party for him. He had so much fun that day, I will never forget it. He will be sincerlely kept in my heart and never forgotten. To the Family of Richard: My deepest condolences to you. I took care of Richard when he resided at the Cottage Street residence. He was a lovely man who always had a smile on his face. It was an honor and priviledge to know him.
