Obituary of Salvatore Stagliano

Mr. Salvatore J. "Sam" Stagliano, a Herkimer native and most recently of Old Carriage House Apartments, Clinton, entered into eternal rest on Monday morning, Feb. 27, 2006 in Faxton/St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. Mr. Stagliano was born on June 16, 1927 in Herkimer, son of the late Nicola and Philomena (Barbuto) Stagliano. He was educated in Herkimer schools. A proud United States Veteran, he served with the U.S. Navy during World War II enlisting on September 13, 1945 and was the recipient of an honorable discharge. Throughout the years, his military career was a source of great satisfaction to him. He furthered his education and graduated from Siena College with a bachelors degree in History and went on to receive a degree in administration. He was united in marriage to Dolores A. Macrina on June 20, 1953 in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. She passed away on September 17, 2002. The couple enjoyed a loving union of 49 years filled with many blessings. Mr. Stagliano worked for several years in the Herkimer Central School District; his dedication and special competence in this job made him a well respected and valued social studies teacher and administrative principal. He retired after 35 very successful years. During his tenure with the Herkimer Central School district he was active with the football and basketball teams and was well-suited for the role of coach. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clinton. Sam found his greatest happiness, his most profound joy, and his truest calling in his family. He established wonderful relationships with his sons that were reflected in the deep pride he took in their lives. He was a friend to many and will be sadly missed. Survivors include three beloved sons: Marc N. Stagliano of Clinton, Michael F. Stagliano of Herkimer, Nicholas R. Stagliano and wife Lorraine of Sherrill; three sisters: Lena Sgroi of Frankfort, Pat and John Madison of Ilion and Antoinette and Nick Stasilli of Herkimer; a sister in law: Mary Macrina of Herkimer; his wife's cousins: Carol and Vincent Vangura, Mary and Charles Kunz, Steve and Beverly Vangura, Bertye Martino, Mikey Moore, and Pat Haight; three cherished grandchildren: Gina Stagliano of Clinton, Nicholas D. Stagliano of Clinton and Nicholas M. Stagliano of Herkimer; two cherished step grandchildren: Meghan and Mary Margaret Cimino of Sherrill; many nieces, nephews, and his many friends at Pine Lake. He also leaves his uncle Guiseppi and aunt Maria Stagliano of Herkimer and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers: Joseph and Joe Stagliano and by a sister: Mary Barberio. In respecting Mr. Stagliano's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a funeral Mass of Christian Burial that will commence at 11 am on Friday, March 3, 2006 from Sts. And Joseph Church, Herkimer, with the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor, officiating. Spring interment with full military honors will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. The family is being served by the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer.
