Obituary of Alfred Maury

Alfred J. Maury, 88, originally of Ilion, most recently residing at the Galinsky Apartments, Herkimer, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. Mr. Maury was born in Ilion on Jan. 6, 1917, son of the late Alfred D. and Margaret J. (Crough) Maury. He was a graduate of Ilion High School and attended the University of Alabama. Mr. Maury was a proud veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army 253 Combat Engineers. Survivors include his nephews, Ralph E. Maury of Hilton Head, S.C., Kenneth N. Maury of Albany, N.Y., Stephen B. Maley of Kendall, N.Y., Philip M. Maley of Irvington, N.Y., Alfred J. Maley of Hampstead, N.H., James F. Maley of Penfield, N.Y., Karl F. Ehrmantraut, Philip C. Ehrmantraut and Joseph P. Ehrmantraut, all of Rochester; first cousins, Jeanne Kotary of Herkimer, Frances Thomas of Frankfort, Paul Griffin of Albany, George Maury of Plantation, Fla. and Helen Brown of Norwich Conn. He was predeceased by his parents, and stepmother, Blanche; two sisters, Frances Ehrmantraut and Helen Maley; two brothers, Thomas and Robert Maury; his niece, Sharon M. Hughes and nephew, Thomas A. Maury, both of Herkimer. Family and friends are invited to visitation on Monday, March 14, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion. Funeral services will commence Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home following visitation and 2 p.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where Father Anthony Barratt, pastor, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, on the Maury lot with full military honors, will take place later this spring at a date and time to be announced.
