Obituary of David Schad
Mr. David E. Schad, age 61, of Herkimer, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, January 21, 2005 in St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. He was born on August 13, 1943 in Herkimer the son of the late Ernest and Anne (Lytwynec) Schad and was educated in Herkimer schools. He furthered his education by attending SUNY Cobleskill. He received a Master's degree in history. He taught history for 27 years at Mt. Markham Cenral school. A proud United States Veteran he served our country with the United States Marines and was honorably discharged on June 7, 1962. Over the course of his career, David earned the respect of his students and fellow colleagues. Because he was an individual of integrity and honor, he undertook all his school projects and activities with unshakable determination and commitment. A favorite hobby of Dave's was watching sports, especially football. Well-versed in the sport of football he was talented enough to serve as assistant coach of the Mt. Markham Football Team. He was very involved in the community and was a member of the following organizations: Herkimer Elk's Lodge #1439, Herkimer Polish Club, Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post #25 of Mohawk and was a life member of the Herkimer V.F.W. Post #4915. Dave personally enjoyed feeding birds and had many feeders around his home. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. Survivors include a son John Schad of Niagra Falls and his companion Denise, his beloved fiance, Evelyn Coniguliaro of Herkimer and her four children; William Rivenburgh, Jr. and wife Dana and family of Frankfort, Brenda Rivenburgh and family of Ilion, Judy Rivenburgh and family of Ilion and Dan Rivenburgh and wife Liz and daughter of Iowa; many aunts and uncles, especially John "Chick" Lytwynec and wife Cora Lee. Also surviving are many cousins and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort on Sunday, January 23, 2005 from 5-8 p.m. David's funeral will commence at 10 am on Monday morning from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered. In keeping with Dave's wishes, cremation will follow. Interment with full military honors will be held this spring in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, at a time to be announced. Memorial offerings may be made to MOVAC; donations can be made at the funeral home and envelopes are also available. The family feels deeply grateful to those who were of great assistance and comfort on Friday. Especially noteworthy are the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Luke's Emergency Room and the emergency medical technician's at MOVAC who offered personal commitment and excellent care. Members of the Mohawk American Legion will gather at the funeral home at 5:30 on Sunday to conduct their service and the Herkimer V.F.W. will gather at 6:00 p.m. to hold their service.
